TGIF Fun: I Blog Like a Girl, How About You?
By Roberta Rosenberg on Apr 20, 2007 in Occasional Rantings
A story, but first hurry the kids out of the room…
Roseanne Barr, no petite flower even when she was first starting out in stand-up comedy, was being heckled by a drunk in her audience. Ignoring him wasn’t working. Finally, the drunk yelled, "Hey, you got some mouth on you. You obviously ain’t no lady." Roseanne shot back without missing a beat, "Oh yeah? Well, you can suck my ***." (Rodney Dangerfield happened to be in the audience that night. He loved her retort and hired her for his comedy club that very night.)
Apparently not talking like a lady got Roseanne her big break. I, however, discovered today that I blog like one, and I have the science to prove it.
I saw GenderGenie mentioned in Do I Blog Like A Girl. So, of course, I had to check it out. I ran two blog posts through it. I was clearly female for one post, probably female for another. (Whew, I was worried for a moment.)
The algorithm is robust, analyzing and categorizing words as female-used and male-used. You can pop in fiction, non-fiction, and blog postings. Each writing effort is analyzed differently.
So what say you? Do you blog like a girl or a boy? Give the GenderGenie a go and find out for sure. Share your results with us, if you dare. (We’re all friends here :=)

I chose a portion of an article that I wrote for my ezine but it is also on my blog. I thought that it would definitely make me come up as female but Gender Genie thought that I was male. I guess I write like a boy…interesting for a woman who works specifically with women.

I’m glad you write like a girl! I would be very disappointed if you didn’t! I’ve often been told I am too opinionated. I will have my writing analyzed and report back.
