Copywriter Brain Hacks and Freelance Meet-ups

Dean Hunt contacted me about a personal project he was working on. He wanted to guest post on every blog listed in the Todd And’s Power 150/Top Marketing Blogs as part of his attempt to raise $1000 to combat Crohn’s disease. His mother has dealt with Crohn’s most of her life, so Dean’s goal is to raise awareness and funds for research.
Well, far be it from me to stall research. Here’s Dean’s post. Enjoy!
I’m Going to Hack Your Brain
Dean Hunt, Guest Blogger
Would you like to know one of the most powerful copywriting techniques? Would you like to know how it can help you convert readers into customers? Would you like to discover this secret that expert copywriters have been using for decades?
The answer to all of this is above…
Seriously, you have already read the answer.
But Dean, you didn’t reveal any secrets, you just asked me loads of questions.
Ok, enough teasing, here is the answer:
Asking questions is a very powerful copywriting technique that can yield incredible results. To fully understand the power of this technique you need to look at it from a psychology standpoint:
The human brain will automatically search for answers to questions. It doesn’t like to have a void of information, and therefore it will search for answers to any questions you ask it.
So what does this mean to you?
It means that you can exploit this brain-hack to give your readers a deep desire to find answers to the questions that you are feeding them. With practice you can use this hack to drastically increase your response and conversion success.
Is that something that would interest you?

And now for something completely different …
I recently received word that Freelancers Union is launching a brand-new partnership with Meetup.com to help build communities of freelancers nationwide. So what they’re doing is sponsoring groups of freelancers anywhere they want to meet up. How great is that?
Here’s how it works: Let’s say a Bazooka-gum-chewing graphic designer from Detroit decides she wants to meet other Detroit-based, gum-chewing designers. She goes to Meetup.com and starts a group. (Freelancers Union covers the fee!) Soon, an entire cadre of gum-snapping designers is meeting regularly in Motor City, swapping info, sharing work space, and referring clients to one another.
Or … how about a more regional focus? Imagine every freelancer in Tulsa mixing and mingling with other solo-preneurs from every possible trade and service? Copywriters and massage therapists. Photographers and hair stylists. Talk about your exotic meet-up mash-ups! The point is that Meetups can be as specific or as general as people like.
Our online communities are great, but here’s a terrific opportunity to meet with others face to face who get the freelancing life. So check it out and report back

Hmm, I’m going to have to check this Meetup.com thing out. I’d love to meet other freelancers in my area - or at least find out if they exist, haha.
