Don’t Hit the Send Key on Your B2B Email Promo Just Yet …
By Roberta Rosenberg on Oct 26, 2007 in DM Copy Tips & Tools, Occasional Rantings
Don’t send nuthin’ until you read this marvelous post by Jill Konrath, author of Selling to Big Companies (a book I recommend!). Her post, Trash Talk & Delete Buttons: A Candid Letter from Your Prospective Customer is a clear call to copywriters, marketing managers and sales people to remember the person and his/her environment in which their sales message will be received.
I always remind my coaching students that no one, NO ONE, is waiting around their inbox, mailbox or telephone waiting to hear your pitch, especially one that’s hasn’t been specifically invited. So be clear, concise and on-point to your prospects self-interest and don’t waste their time. Toss the marketing blah-blah and speak to them about how you can help them solve specific problems and then prove it.
I encourage you to pass along Jill’s post to others you know who’d benefit from its wisdom. I’ve printed it out and just may get it laminated for safe keeping.

I’m amazed at the number of times I’ll “finish” a piece of online copy, walk away for a bit, and come back to find it’s somehow rewritten itself to be slow, boring, and droney.
The “would I read this if I got it” test still remains my most effective line of defense against copy that spontaneously rewrites itself.

Ooh, quality read, thanks!
One of the best things about following a particular blog is that you come across so many recommendations for new blogs which otherwise one would probably never find.
So, thanks!
