Google Generation: Search Engine as Internet Brand and Behavior

As a copywriter, I care about the written word and how my marketing messages to various target markets are received, processed and acted upon. As a communications-technology geek, I’m especially interested in the media that deliver the messages and how the medium can alter the receiving environment.

(Where’s Marshall McLuhan when I need him most?)

That’s why I was intrigued by this article in today’s Pandia Search Engine News -The “Google generation” and emerging web behavior.

I didn’t print out the full, 35-page pdf but you might want to take a quick peruse. For good or for better, we’d better know the markets and the media if we’re going to survive as writers in this brand-new landscape where media and behavior collide.

All of my children fall into the category of Google Generation. They remember not a time when the internet/web wasn’t available to inform and entertain on a 24/7 basis. (Me? Abe Lincoln and I used to scratch out our “larning” with a piece of charcoal on the back of a shovel while we lay in front of the glow of a wood fire or play dominos with tiles made of buffalo bone.)

I can only imagine what my grandchildren’s communication technology environment will look like … whatever it is, though, I’ll be ready. What choice do I or you have?
