Maven’s Mailbag: CLIO wants 12 Jr CW Stars, Email Stats, Boiling Egg Perfection

Here’s what I’ve received today and thought I’d share:
The CLIO Awards people in partnership with IHaveAnIdea.org are teaming up in search of the best and brightest under 30 copywriters (hey, how about a category for seniors who should could have bailed long ago, but didn’t!) Take a look here. Deadline is April 1. (I haven’t veted, so mea culpa, dudes.)
From EmailStatsCenter.com - some interesting stats, natch.
- Emails that had only the subject line personalized (12.4% Open Rate & 1.7% CTR) did worse than those with no personalization at all (13.5% Open Rate & 2.7% CTR). - MailerMailer (2008)
- 56% of survey respondents consider marketing messages from known senders to be spam if the message is “just not interesting to me”, while 50% of respondents consider “too frequent emails from companies I know” to be spam. Q Interactive and MarketingSherpa (2008) - this one is really scary, no?
- Emails with 20 or more links got about twice as many clicks as those with fewer links. - MailerMailer (2008)
I’ve included “how-to” from Ehow.com because in an imperfect world where chaos reigns, I find comfort, perhaps even the grace of G-d, in the pure simplicity of boiling the perfect hard-boiled egg … and think of how pretty your next egg salad sandwich or deviled egg platter will look.

It seems that Copywriting Maven has been thrown into some sort of March Madness-Styled, Celebrity Writing Blogger Death Match thingie at Writer’s Resource Center. From what I can tell, you can’t vote (me either) but as Barbie would say, “It looks hard.” Copyblogger won the first round. No surprise there. I think I’m in Round #3. You can read more about it here. (The MenwithPens fans are commenting hot and heavy, but don’t let that scare sway you.) I’m just waiting for my uniform to arrive.

@Roberta - Now, the coolest thing would be watching Brian walk away as King, just because that’s the way the world works, and then YOU be Cinderella (I don’t look good in skirts) and I’ll be Prince Charming (Hey, I ride, too), and we’ll go have a food fight in the royal cafeteria.
