Why Does it Take 2 Weeks to Prep for 2 Days Off?
By Roberta Rosenberg on Jul 25, 2008 in Occasional Rantings
Mea culpa, Maven fans … hip-deep in work and family obligations, my nose has been debrided raw on the proverbial grindstone all in hopes of clearing my desk for a long weekend with hubby … without the kids.
How long in the making? 6 years! (Who says the “writing life” is all about drinking mojitos and snacking on preciously-sized raw food nibbles while writing a paragraph or two a day?)
Anyway, just to give you an idea of what it’s taken me to get to today, here’s what I’ve been working on
- Subscriber acquisition series for B2B Euro publisher … 9 emails, 15 subject heads, and a landing page
- Drafting renewal series promo calendar for B2B publisher in US, provide copy for complete multi-component series, including DM, email, and telephone talking points
- Completing work on new B2C website, hoping to launch next week. Maybe.
- Preparing resume for creative director/ad person - you know who you are James
- Wrote a children’s book review for Adoptive Families magazine
- Accepted Technical Editor duties for Google Blogger for Dummies (For Dummies) by Susan Gunelius (Paperback - Feb 23, 2009) - Thank you, Susan, for the recommendation! (This is my second Dummies book. I was the TE for Writing Copy for Dummies, 2004.)
- Beginning work on new website for a veterans’ rights organization.
- Coordinating new journal for same organization
- Regular update duty for 2 other established sites
- Updating my own sites and stocking my store
… and have I mentioned my kids are home from day camp which means they’re with me for the NEXT 4 WEEKS until school starts?
Whew. I’m tired just writing that. Not a complaint, mind you, but just a small, pre-I’m-so-outa-here YIPPEE before we head out the door for the open road. But just for you, here’s a video from National Lampoon’s Vacation … notice Christy Brinkley in happier days, I think she was between hubby 1 and 2.
That’s me
