Friday Video Funnies: Doc Bottoms Aspray AllOver Body Deodorant

I just couldn’t wait for Friday. In a moment, you’ll know why.

This truly represents another rung of Western Civilization’s descent into hell. (Of course, the guy’s from Long Island, NY – Hell’s Gateway. He probably also grew up in Masspequa, probably on my same street.)

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you to one of the most debased informercials you’ll ever see. I’d normally say enjoy it, but you won’t. :)

This, as they say, has a genius all of its own.

Hey, it’s made in the USA!

Oddly, I find little comfort in that statement; watching this infomercial was like watching two trains approaching each other, but being unable to turn away.

And the “I’ll double your order” call at the end seemed more like a threat than a benefit…

The end of civilization can be pretty entertaining, in a grotesque sort of way.

It worked. All my pores closed up in an attempt to protect myself from the tidal wave of vulgarity.

Does anyone else remember the good ol days when we would just take a shower?

You know, everytime I see an ad for this kind of product that’s exactly my first thought. How about a hot shower and a little soap, pal? :)

What’s wrong with you guys? I LOVE this commercial. Brilliant!

First of all, it’s true. Second, it’s an example of simple, direct advertising … with a little humor thrown in. One thing many copywriters miss when they’re writing ads is “personality.”

Roberta and I were recently chatting and I said her blog was special because it has personality. I think the same thing can work for ads, especially TV ads, because viewers expect a little entertainment.

If you work in advertising, you probably work with a lot of stinkers. Get your Doc Bottoms Aspray today!

Oh, G-d, Dean – you’re putting our discussion about my blog ‘personality’ next to this ad for those who know not a shower? :)

Billy Mays was entertaining but always informative. I think the comedy overrides the product making it appear a parody as opposed to a serious (well, whatever we want to call it) ad for a genuine product.
