Welcome to My Blizzard, December 2009
By Roberta Rosenberg on Dec 19, 2009 in Just Thinking
I was looking forward to a quiet weekend.
We lit the last candle on my Grandma Fannie’s hanukkiah and while we expected a pretty good snow storm today, it turned into a storm of record proportion and officially became a blizzard a few hours ago. Good thing hubby and I managed to get to the supermarket the night before for snacks.
I did manage to complete my technical edits of Susan Gunelius’ upcoming new book, Blogging All-in-One for Dummies, and shovel 12 or so inches off the front steps and walk.
If you wonder what a blizzard looks like in my neck of the Maryland woods, here’s the visual evidence.
Pretty view, isn’t it?
Here’s hubby drudging back from the postbox. (No mail. USPS fail.)
That’s his Bruins jacket brightening up the white on white.
Okay, one more.
Here’s our deck. That’s 18 inches of snow.
Stay warm, y’all.

Update – there’s now 21 snow inches on the deck and it’s still snowing. Still snowing.

The day after my grandma passed away a couple of years ago, we got a little over 2 feet of snow. We ended up having to postpone the funeral because of the blizzard-like conditions and the number of roads being closed, not to mention the amount of time it was going to take for the cemetery folks to locate the correct plot under all that snow. The graveside service a few days later was short and sweet as it was about 8 degrees out and still blowing snow all over the little country cemetery.
The irony in it all is that my grandma absolutely hated to go out in bad weather.

Gretchen, sounds like your Grandma wanted to hang in for as long as she could!
Final deck tally: 22″!

Thanks, Susan. Beautiful day today, albeit with snow everywhere. Loved the book – you’ve done a great job! Thanks for asking me to handle tech edit duties once again. I enjoyed it – and learned from it!
