I love checking my blog comment spam filter.
Usually it’s filled with flattering, flowery prose about my creativity, good looks and other naughty bits. I feel so validated every morning, not just as a writer but as a human being.
I didn’t think much about the first effort, written on behalf of a weight loss system:
“Kudos for posting such a informative website. this weblog happens to be not just informative but also very creative too. There are a limited number of professionals who can think to create technical articles that creatively. A lot of people search for information on this subject. I Myself searched through many websites to build up on knowhow with regard to this.Keep writing in !! “
Usual crapola. Then I spy another one. This time from a SEO outfit from somewhere in the mountainous midwest where people ski a lot. I checked the link and it shows a pretty legit looking business. So imagine my deeper disappointment to read their contribution to cyber detritus.
“Thanks for hosting such a terrific site. this weblog is not only informative but also very creative too. There normally are only few professionals who are capable of create not so easy articles that creatively. A lot of people keep searching for knowledge on this topic. We ourselves searched in several websites to come across information regarding this.Looking for much more information from you !!”
I bolded the tip-off phraseology. Is it just me or is the syntax here vaguely familiar. I wonder – Is there a plagiarism rule for spam writers? (And to whom would they report it?)
#1 Spammer wants to sell you a book. Bad enough. But #2 Spammer – some kind of SEO & Spam Company – wants to handle your SEO and write and run your PPC ads. Yeah, give me some more of this please for my marketing dollars.
As Homer Simpson would say, “Doh!”
I dunno. They both read like they were written by the same person or persons having taken the same “Write Spam Comments for Big Profits” for ESOL Students. I must have missed the spam Tweet telling me all about this one.
But here’s the best part. Both of the spammers wanted their comments to run on a post I ran this past summer, Are You A Stupid Marketer?
Why, yes they are!
Keep ‘em coming, boys. If you have the time, I have the comedy.
