The folks at TextLinkBrokers.com don’t think so. In fact, they’re willing to pay $5,000.00 (yes, that’s 3 zeros after the 5 and before the period) if you can help them find the perfect candidate for the job.I have to wonder why the finder’s fee is so high … could it be the requirements? Let’s take a look at ‘em:

4 years minimum, successful hands-on experience building links via a variety of methods

Deep knowledge of the link building industry

Ability to create custom campaigns and custom link building strategies using in-house resources/programs

Good organizer, project manager and team player

Attentive to meeting deadlines and goals

Advanced know in the SEO

Understands social media

Hmm … seems like they’re flexible about working remote, at least initially. That’s a plus. Now that the winter cold is beginning to settle in the Northeast, an eventual relocation to the warmer climes of Mesa/Gilbert Arizona (one of the real estate hot spots in a moribund national real estate market) would have its charm.

And who would want to argue with an attractive six-figure salary? Not me, she said.

I’m not applying since I like the copywriting gig and the Northeast cold, but if you know of someone who might fit the bill, feel free to pass along this post and have them click here for full details. You just might earn yourself a very tidy bonus just for being a great guy or gal.

Copywriters know that writing powerful, persuasive copy is tough enough when English is your first language. This is especially true when writing conversationally and that actually can add a second layer of difficulty. Common slang, figures of speech, and subtle shades of meaning are what we weave together to get our prospects and customers nodding, resonating and responding to our messages.

Which makes the whole process of translation so dang hard and fraught with peril. When we transport our advertising messages from their native language base to another language - with its own slang and common understandings - well … we can only guess at the magnitude for ourselves and our clients if mistakes are made.

And advertising history is littered with precisely these kinds of translation mistakes. Almost all are hilarious - unless, of course, you’re the one responsible for the mega blunder.

That’s why I was happy to take a look at JAPANtranslation, a Japanese translation agency to see what they offered. While these Japanese translators aren’t copywriters or marketers per se, they do have an impressive depth of translation experience in numerous fields and industries, including IT, legal, finance, manufacturing, medical, etc. Of course, all translations are done by native speakers of Japanese, but the nice part for those of us who aren’t the least bit savvy in Japanese, services - including contracts - are all handled in English.

What’s more, they have a very impressive client list and a rave section that notes enthusiastic feedback from several advertising agencies.

If you or your company is working in a multinational capacity, I definitely think you’ll want to take a closer look at JAPANtranslation and its capabilities. I’m not often asked about using or recommending this kind of service, but now my curiosity is piqued. I hope I get the chance real soon to give JAPANtranslation an actual try. I’d like to see how the “Maven” translates in venues outside of Yiddish and English!

I’ve been wondering for many months what the new owner of Copywriting.com
(it used to belong to direct mail copywriter Karl Freitag) was going to
do with the domain. When tapped to write a review for its grand
re-opening, I got the chance to find out.

Owned by Miguel Alvarez, a self-described internet marketer and
copywriter located in Mexico, Copywriting.com is a bright, cleanly
designed information site about, well, copywriting! It’s organized into
logical sections, including Articles, Training, Resources, Community,
Blog, Services along with the usual "About Us" and contact information.
You can subscribe to the blog via email and the usual RSS feeds.

The articles offer basic information for new writers or those who may
need to write marketing copy for their work. The articles are actually
being drawn from the blog, but that’s a quibble. Perhaps in time Mr
Alvarez will add original or other kinds of republished material here
apart from the blog postings. The forum, too, as it’s on a new site, is
lightly trafficked for the moment.

Under Training, you’ll find an extensive list of copywriting
correspondence courses from the American Writers and Artists Institute
(AWAI) via affiliate links (self-disclosure alert - I’ve been a copywriting coach/mentor for AWAI since 2003.)
Under Resources, another extensive list of familiar copywriting/SEO
tools from a number of well-respected publishers also via affiliate
links. (The affiliate links, however, aren’t identified as such. I’d
suggest they should be.) Under Services, Mr Alvarez details his
copywriting services, policies, rates, etc.

What I really like about the site is the overall look and feel. It’s
very professional and appealing. The content is well-written with a
personal, engaging voice. Although the content is generally geared for
beginning copywriters and web marketers, I believe in time the site
could attract a larger, more seasoned audience.

But do check out the
blog post, Meet the father of propaganda
about Edward Bernays, a nephew of Freud. A documentary video is
included, too, for your viewing/listening pleasure. Trust me, you’ll
think about the art and science of persuasion in a whole new way.

Keep an eye on Copywriting.com … it shows a lot of promise.
